The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Sacramento Valley chapter's Scholar Athlete Awards
Judging what a high school football player does on Friday nights is easy. It's what that student-athlete does away from the field that often goes unnoticed and unappreciated. Five area players will get their recognition tonight at The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Sacramento Valley chapter's Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet at the Radisson Hotel in Sacramento.
St. Mary's Jordan Carl will receive awards of excellence for exhibiting superior qualities of scholarship, citizenship and leadership. The scholar-athlete will be given a plaque, and those who have not already received college scholarships will be awarded $500. Carl carries a 3.6 GPA and serves many community roles, including helping special needs kids at the San Joaquin County Office of Education.
"This is a great honor," he said. "We got it done in the classroom, and that's not something a lot of people see. It's a great achievement."
